April, 2005Burning bright in the forests of the nightSubmitted by reeses on Sat, 2005-04-30 21:07. | Mac
So, first news is, Tiger doesn't suck. The OS is more responsive (at the cost of some smoothness and grace), so they've probably wedged more into the kernel. Safari 2.0 doesn't suck. In fact, I've stopped using Firefox, for the first time in what, four years? Sheesh. PithHelmet replaces Adblock, Saft replaces SessionSaver, and my Firefox needs are filled. Seeing this after this made me twitch annoyingly -- I mean, sure, prices for technology go down all the time, but if you've dropped your price by $300 twice in three and a half months, you probably overshot the mark by a pretty darned significant margin. Then I was reminded of Amex's 60-day window for price protection (which I had thought was only 30 days), and I was suddenly happy.
What you see in the picture above is an annoying problem with Flash under Firefox on the Mac about which I've been kvetching for roughly ever. The initial render may be fine, but as soon as I change the window size, scrolling, etc., such that a redraw is necessary, most or all of the window is corrupted. What you see above is the result of loading a picture in Flickr and twiddling the scrollbars. Me: Hey, speaking of Jane Doe, what the hell has she done to her hair lately? It looks awful! Everyone else at the table, in chorus: Cancer. It's really quite amazing how quickly and easily you can destroy eight people's capacity for conversation when you don't realise that someone didn't make a conscious choice to have weirdly-gelled, short, spiky hair.
