August, 2006Ebay and pecuniary good fortuneSubmitted by reeses on Sat, 2006-08-26 23:41. | nadaIn re the "I am stupid and I bought the wrong Core 2 Duo CPU to upgrade my Mac Mini" saga, I did put the CPU up on EBay. And made more than I spent on it. In between the time I bought it and the time the auction closed, the supplies for the E6600 (even which, it turns out, does not overclock as well as one of the less-expensive chips, if you're stupid and cheap and into that kind of thing) dried up all over the place and the prices of the remaining chips jumped up an average of about $40-50. Kat is astonished that I have this kind of luck, and I have no idea what causes it. Delicious Monster's Library (otherwise pretty much a piece of crap) uncovered this for me some time ago, when I scanned in most of my DVDs, had it grab current data for all of them from Amazon.com, and then sorted by "current value".
I had a buddy back in the day who would have to rush home after partying so he could watch Paula Zahn. Not so much watch, but he kept ranting about how her voice was, well, quite pleasing to the ear. That guy is now an anthropology professor at an esteemed private college. I have another buddy who estalked "Erica Hill", describing her as "I just saw this redhead I want to bone mercilessly on TV, but I don't know if she's fat or not." Because, you know, she's right out if she's a chubber, even if all you ever see is her head. DisconnectedSubmitted by reeses on Sat, 2006-08-12 15:44. | tvMy cable box started acting more and more unstable over the past few weeks -- it would freeze and kick me out of pre-recorded programs with some regularity. Finally, last week, it stopped working entirely as a DVR. I could watch live television, but I could not record or store any other programming. In a calculated absurdity, Comcast does not do field replacements of faulty units. I had to take my cable box to the local "Payment Center", which is conveniently located at least, for a replacement. Unfortunately, the Saturday afternoon line was a little over half an hour long, although that's better than waiting around for a cable guy to show up. |
