San Francisco move
Submitted by reeses on Fri, 2005-12-02 14:52. | San Francisco
Oh yeah, we found a place in SF. Soma, about a mile from work if I drove according to Google maps. I'm thinking about donating or craigslisting our bikes here and buying an iXi, because a mile is too long for a fatty like me to walk. Plus, people who "bike to work" just sound more fit than someone who walked to work. Like, right now, when I walk to work. The alarm goes off, I go look for caffeine in the fridge or on the counter if Kat grabbed me a cuppa from *$, and then stagger into the study. If I tried Karen's pedometer experiment, I'd find out I walked about 400 feet in a typical workday. Bed, kitchen, study, bathroom (post-coffee & shower), bedroom (dressed), (loop every 20-30 minutes: kitchen (water), study, bathroom (water)), kitchen (lunch), study, (loop every 20-30 minutes: kitchen (water), study, bathroom (water)). The moving boxes came today. The concierge called up and said,"Fedex is here with some boxes," so I thought I had ordered a computer trinket or something. But, no, it was...boxes. We figured we'd wardrobe box the hanging stuff and box the books, and let the movers pack the rest. The Fedex guy had a huge quantity of boxes. I signed for them and went back to my desk, doubling my exercise for the day. Two hours later, it was like deja vu all over again. Fedex guy, huge number of boxes. I need boxes to move the boxes. We have the movers scheduled to come in on the 14th and pack our stuff, and take it all away on the fifteenth. It's costing about $700 to crate, ship, and uncrate the plasma, which makes me almost want to sell it and buy a new one. Hmm... Oh, crap, lazyweb: if you know of a good car transport service that does covered shipping, please let me know. I don't want the car to get all scratched up from one of those un-covered car trailers, when they load and unload it ten times across the country in the middle of winter. If you've had good luck with someone, I'd appreciate a referral. Right now we're looking at about $2k for this with the moving companies, and I'd like to bring that down a little bit, since I've blown past our relo reimbursement by about a bajillion dollars. Addendum: We found a company, and they were not good. email me for details. Post new comment |
