Moving books

Dear Lazyweb, I'm looking down the throat of another cross-country move, and with gas prices climbing, I'm wondering about the cost of moving ALL THESE FRICKIN' BOOKS. I estimate we have about 4000 pounds (possibly 5klbs) of books, but I keep finding stacks of law books, each of which weighs about a bajillion tons. Paying the same amount to ship a box of books as, say, a plasma television or a chaise longue seems a little absurd, and it seems that the shippers tend to lag the moving companies when reacting to fuel expenditure increases. What I need you, my darling lazyweb, to tell me, is if it would be materially less expensive to box the books up and ship via FedEx, USPS, UPS, etc. I don't mind boxing books -- it's about the only moving task that doesn't make my skin crawl. I would prefer that the shipper be capable of coming to my apartment and picking up the boxes, because I'm very lazy. Yours very truly, Post new comment |
